The Village - The Last Nighters - Episode 105

1360x908-LN_The_Village-1.jpg

We invite back Rachel Kennerly of "Cannabis Heals Me" to discuss M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village".  The movie has the expected twist that has become one of Shyamalan's tropes, however, I think the twist we will have on this will be even better.

The premise of the movie will give us plenty of fodder for discussion as we get into instilling fear to maintain control as the benevolent overseers infantilize the populace for their own good, the greater good - or do they?

Join us next week as Scott Morrison returns to talk about "Enemy at the Gates".

Reel Unconventional Film Analysis.

We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking.

The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film.

When Harry Met Sally - The Last Nighters - Episode 104

1360x908-LN_When_Harry_Met_Sally-1.jpg

To celebrate the ringing in of the new year, we harken back to the auld rom-com well with a double-dose of both crude humor and witty charm in the holiday classic, "When Harry Met Sally".

When we decide to have someone to have as a guest on this here show, we want to have them on as soon as possible.  We’ll have what she’s having, it’s the wonderful Raylene Lightheart of Blastoff! With Johnny Rocket.

This will be a fun romp through one of her favorite movies that left an indelible mark on popular culture even now, thirty years on.  We get into the weeds on the emotional maturation journey for the title characters and have a great discussion.

Join us next week as we mark the return of Rachel Kennerly of "Cannabis Heals Me" to talk about M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village".

It’s a Wonderful Life - The Last Nighters - Episode 103

1360x908-LN_Its_a_Wonderful_Life-1.jpg

Merry Christmas!  Our pal Mike C. joins us to get in on a little Jimmy Stewart flick called, “It’s A Wonderful Life.”  We'll get into over this one as we have a sneaking suspicion that Robert doesn't like this one. We'll make sure to ring that bell so some wings get redistributed properly.

We get into all sorts of discussions about the market and how it serves people better and at varying levels of quality and price.  We talk about bank runs and how they are a check on poor policy and we also discuss how kindness begets kindness and how treating your fellow man as you would like to be treated makes the world a better place.  Not to mention my side-quest into Ancient Aliens and the Pyramid Code. This is a fun one.

Join us next week as Raylene Lightheart returns for a New Year's movie, "When Harry Met Sally".

Gremlins - The Last Nighters - Episode 102

1360x908-LN_Gremlins-1.jpg

Show Notes:

A movie that will kick off that Christmas spirit, "Gremlins". Our guest is Rocky Ferrenburg and we'll be sure to keep him dry so he stays fuzzy and cute.  Is it more Christmas than Die Hard? We hash it out.

We also get into some of the anti-capitalist messaging at the heart of this aimless Christmas-filled flick.
